My mother just died ... on the same day my father died 11 years ago. obituary. I'm in shock and extremely sad; she was due to turn 91 next Monday. For those following my blog, an incredible compliment, please know that I probably won't be posting much if anything for a while. I recently wrote a very dark piece about my mother and me, semi-literal/"realistic," but ultimately metaphorical. As one editor I know said, "it's probably unpublishable."
I wonder if death erases memories of hurt and anger, disappointment and bewilderment. That's probably not what psychologists/psychiatrists believe, but I'm feeling that it does. No matter our issues with our mothers, we have to love them, as we came from them, their flesh and dreams. They gave us life. They leave us death.

I'm very sorry to hear this news, Carol. A longtime friend of mine died this week, at the age of only 44, and while it's in no degree the same thing, I just wanted to let you know that I saw your news here and was thinking of you.
I look forward to another kind of conversation at a later time.
I'm thinking of you, Carol, and sending you lots of love.
I'm so sorry to hear this, Carol.
sincere condolences Carol, as trite as that sounds given the gravity of the circumstances
So sorry for your loss, Carol.
Please accept my sympathies.
